Ask who a character is and the answer is drawn only from the pages you have actually turned. A character tracker that knows the ending is not a reading aid, it is a spoiler with extra steps.
The hold gesture Android had already taken
Word lookup was a long-press until it turned out Android's own text selection claims that gesture first, so the feature silently did nothing on half the devices it shipped to. It is a tap now, and the definition arrives in a bottom sheet rather than a tooltip that a thumb covers.
